Cambridge Enterprise exists to transform brilliant technological and scientific concepts into commercial reality. Through academic consultancy, licensing of intellectual property and seeding new ventures, it brings together the UK's foremost academic inventors with experts from across the commercial spectrum.
The following describe some of the ways in which you can support academics at the frontline of innovation. For information on the many other exciting collaborative initiatives at Cambridge, please contact us.
In this current difficult economic climate it is even more important to support the efforts of innovators, and there is no more exciting place to do so than in Cambridge.
Sir David Walker, Senior Advisor, Morgan Stanley International
The UK’s leading technology transfer office, Cambridge Enterprise has created a new way to support some of the world’s most innovative and famous laboratories. Launched in 2008, the University of Cambridge Discovery Fund offers the opportunity to support the commercialisation of Cambridge-produced innovations for the benefit of the inventors, the University, the UK economy and wider society. The Fund redresses a serious gap in the market: while early stage venture capital is available for investment-ready spin-outs, there has been comparatively little access to pre-seed and seed funding. An evergreen resource of £5 million to invest in science with clear commercial potential, the Discovery Fund will provide vital early support to 8 to 12 opportunities a year. Proceeds of realisations will be used to replenish the Fund, maximising the impact of gifts to it.
